Our Mission
SUMTIMESSAD’s mission is to elevate mental health awareness, embracing both the good days and bad.
Through open conversation, we celebrate vulnerability as a strength and strive to create a community of like-minded individuals. Our clothing and self-development workshops aim to shed light on others' mental health journeys, providing reassurance that we are not alone.
Mental health affects over 40% of Australians every year, so why is there still shame around mental illness? That ends now. We aim to provide our community with a pathway through the good days and bad, recognizing the positive impact that can occur from voicing our stories.
We are more than just a brand; we're a community.
Often Happy, SUMTIMESSAD.
Our Founder
My name is Courtney Summers I am the founder of SUMTIMESSAD. I created this brand 2 days after rupturing my ACL in 2022. I felt extremely lost when I got injured but I needed to remember there’s always good in any situation.
My mission is to recognise mental health in our community, embracing vulnerability and celebrating individuals mental health journeys. We should know that we don’t have to endure these challenges alone.
My journey with mental health began when I was 13 years old and was diagnosed with Anorexia and Depression. A kid who loved my sports was faced with challenges that nearly cost me my life. The happiness in myself, family and friends was lost and hard to find once again. This mental illness isolates you from your loved ones and you cant see a way out. For a mental illness that has affected over 1 millions individuals in 2022 I felt like no one knew how I felt. Maybe it was the lack of people and things that were telling their story but I wish there was more to get me through those tough times. As a proud Arabana woman, my goal is to be a role model for the indigenous community, especially in the sporting scene. I hope I can provide guidance for young indigenous people, educating and empowering them to recognise their own mental health. My main goal is to get more Indigenous athletes into elite sports.
Life goes by so quickly and I don’t want others to waste it on the uncontrollable. From my experience, I can now say that its okay to be SUMTIMESSAD, it’s what you do after that matters. Life will never be perfect, we will constantly face challenges that may defeat us, but we can always learn and better ourselves from it.
I would never change what happened to me because I can now bring guidance to others who may be dealing with similar situations. SUMTIMESSAD is a safe place that individuals can tell their stories, helping others create a sense of belonging and comfort. I hope you will join me on this journey to create a community who celebrates both the highs and lows.
Lots of Love,
